Manoj Kana is a veteran malayalam theatre artist and a drama maker. He directed and staged fifteen stage plays and thirty street plays, includes Piranha(2007) and Uratti (2005), that got lot of state awards. Kana was born in Payyannur, in the Kannur district of Kerala, India. Moreover this he is a social activist who is active in daytoday issues
Kana has more than fifteen years of experience in Malayalam theatre field. Actively interferes with day today political and socio cultural affairs by street plays as well as speeches over various issues. Conducted two street play journeys all over Kerala. Directed and staged fifteen stage plays and thirty street plays.
Manoj Kana, the self made achiever in the area of drama, play and theatre act is a distinct face among the artists and playwrights in India. Born in the year 1973 at Aravanchal near Payyanoor. He had done the script and direction of about 20 plays including street plays. His famous works include “Uratti’” of Wayanad Neru drama group, Onnam Prathi Currency, Manivetta, Food and Bomb and Labour Camp of Payyanoor Pravada drama group,Pirana of Kannur Sangchetana drama group etc. He had secured various awards such as the Best director by Sangeetha Nadaka Accadamy( Music and Drama Academy) in the year 2003,P.J Antony foundation award in the year 2004, Atlas Kairali literature award in the year 2006.His play “Pirana” has got 5 awards including special jury award in the professional drama competition conducted by Sangeetha Nataka Academy(Music and Drama Academy).
He had secured the great support of the people from various parts of the world by the making of plays that deals with the problems and abnormalities in the society. He is the most powerful dramatist that India witnessed after Safdar Hashmi. He is the first dramatist who got direct invitation from the National School of Drama. It is he who created the drama which casted tribal people exclusively. With all his achievements, he is continuing his journey which delivers the message of renovation and rethinking in the society. He has chosen the way of street play mostly to convey his message to the society. His plays are intended to direct the attention of government and officials towards the issues of common and underprivileged people.
It is the Society that made the dramatist in him. The interactions with the various classes of the society and the study of their attitudes and problems gave him a very broad canvas. His hardworking nature and his great passion towards drama made him the creator of continuous and distinct projects.
His theatre “Neru” (meaning truth) deals with all the subjects that affect human life including politics, love, hunger and the intrusion of new threats in the society. It is a fight to restore back the lost truth and love in the society.
Awards and Achievements
Won the first ‘Yuva Prathibha’ award for youngsters conducted by P. J Antony Foundation.
Best director award in the year 2005 by Kerala Sangetha Nadaka academy for the play Uratti.
Atlas- Kairali award for the best scriptwriter
Special jury award from Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy for the play Pirana.
